The journalistic team of Impacto TIC It began to cover technological topics since 1994. It has lived and experienced the great evolution of both Technology and society, of people, of the entire planet, thanks to it and also to Science and Innovation.
And at the same time, we have experienced the evolution, challenges and crises of journalism, digital journalism and Technology and Science journalism.
After so many years of covering these topics, a few years ago we decided to do much better, with the freedom of being a digital native medium –Although with budget and scale limitations as well.
With the expanded vision of Impacto TIC and our acronym –from Technology alone to the 3 fields that explain our name: Technology, Innovation and Science–, we want to start from a base, and that is why we propose this Manifesto for ICT Journalism.
The manifesto, like everything Impacto TIC, will continue in beta "And we think it will be for a long time." So if you have ideas, proposals, criticisms, points to add or something else, Contact us. It does not matter if you are a specialized journalist or from another field, if you are a communication or journalism student, if you lead an ICT media outlet, if you work in an agency or if you are a citizen of 'another world' but who believes that deserves better ICT journalism.
Also, if you want to join this manifesto, welcome! We will be including the names of the people and media that join him at the bottom of this page.
These are the 7 points of our Manifesto for ICT Journalism:
1. THE IMPACT OF ICT IS THE MAIN THING
Hardware products, applications, online services and all the technological advancements thrill. Just like innovations in processes, materials and in all fields, and scientific advances of all kinds.
But Impacto TIC We believe that Technology, Innovation and Science are important for the impact –social, economic, cultural or environmental– that they generate in people, companies, communities, governments and the planet in general, not by themselves.
Therefore, our slogan: "The important thing about technology is not bits and bytes, but how it transforms lives and changes the world."
2. WE DREAM OF A WORLD IN WHICH ICTs ARE ALLIED WITH INCLUSION AND EQUITY
We enjoy trying and 'playing' with technology, and we want our audience to too. But our great obsession is that this, together with innovation and science, achieves a positive social impact.
We are convinced that the Millennium Sustainable Development Goals (reduction of poverty and hunger, improvement and greater coverage in health and education, better employment, greater equity, achievement of peace and true justice, a sustainable planet ...).
3. THE JOURNALISM OF TECHNOLOGY IS A SERIOUS MATTER
We have a social mission as important as journalism that covers topics historically considered 'serious' or profound, such as politics or the economy. Although it should not be boring, It is not entertainment journalism!
4. MASS CONSUMPTION PRODUCTS ARE ONLY A SMALL PART OF THE TECHNOLOGY
Product and service reviews are helpful, but the digital and technology universe is much broader. We will try to reflect this in our content.
5. DIGITAL AND COMPUTER SECURITY ARE KEY ISSUES
We must vehemently promote digital and technology adoption and ownership. But it is our obligation to alert about the threats and risks of using it, and provide prevention guidelines, In order for users to have positive and safe experiences, and not return to the analog world due to bad experiences.
6. #DIGITAL TRANSFORMATION IS MORE THAN TECHNOLOGY
We are convinced that #Digital Transformation is not a fad or a passing trend. It is necessary –and urgent, in many cases–, and not only for companies and businesses, as many see it, but also for governments, social organizations and yes: people.
We will try to contribute to it with a premise: #Digital Transformation is not synonymous with digital or technology adoption, but with cultural and mental change.
7. TECHNOLOGY AND THE DIGITAL WORLD ARE IN THE REGIONS AND EVERYWHERE
Silicon Valley has been the focus of innovation in the world of computer technology, the Internet and # Digital Transformation. But… It is not the center of the world! And neither are Asia or Europe.
In every Colombian and Latin American city, for sure, there are innovations, ventures, projects with technology. And they also deserve that we attend them from the media.
En Impacto TICIn the short term, we plan to cover digital and ICT advances in the regions of Colombia, and later in Latin America.
